Before we can learn the specifics of how to create high quality web videos, it’s helpful to take a few minutes (4 to be exact) to review some pitfalls to avoid. Things to avoid are:
- No hook in the first 10 seconds
- Huge file size and slow buffer time to start playing
- Video is a download-only file
- Content is too long and doesn’t deliver in the end

I think that this video was a good ground-breaker for amateurs and a good reminder for pros to not forget the few simple techniques you need to consider when doing video on the web. Nothing too technical and you put it in lament terms. Good job. I like your website.

Very informative. Although most of it is common sense, these are things that can easily be overlooked as an ameteur. You made this video very interesting to watch. I like that I was not only learning something but that I laughed a few times through the process. Thanks for the tutorial!

Dear Jack,
You may wonder how I found you. Well, it was from a post you left on a review of Traffic Geyser. That shows that leaving comments works.
I am here to learn about video things you may have to teach. BTW, how do you get that nice grouping of the social media buttons for subscriptions on the top right?
I need to know how to do that. Thanks

Thanks Evan, good to have you! And I appreciate you saying how you found me. It is good to hear that leaving comments can help people find you. I like the content on your blog too. I subscribed to the feed and noticed that you don’t have a favicon that shows up in my RSS reader. That’s something I just fixed with my own blog. Here’s a link to an article on how to fix it: http://beckism.com/2008/04/custom_favicon/. As for your question on the share buttons, my site BetterInternetVideo.com is a combination of 2 different Wordpress themes: “blogsimplified” and “bluesensation”. I can’t remember where we downloaded them but my web designer helped me combined them together and the share buttons were built into one of the themes we used.
