Could YouTube be the next curator of fine art? Well, today the Guggenheim Museum launched their YouTube Play contest, which invites YouTube creators to get their most creative videos recognized as digital art. The deadline is July 31, 2010 and a full list of submission criteria is available on their YouTube channel, but here are some of the highlights:
- must be completely original content
- meets all YouTube’s terms & conditions
- only one submission is allowed per person
- must’ve been posted no earlier than 6/14/08
Personally, I couldn’t be happier to see that YouTube now has a way to celebrate yet another type of artist: the fine artist. What do you think? Is YouTube capable of attracting work that meets the caliber of inspiring, forward-thinking, ground-breaking art that you see in museums?
